Communities
Diverse neighbourhood
In Travbyen, we are working to ensure that the neighbourhood has a wide range of residents who reflect Billund's diversity. We do this by offering a varied range of housing that can accommodate different family types – and by creating good resident-driven meeting places that encourage communities between generations and nationalities.
The neighbourhood is designed to accommodate many different types of communities. There are small courtyards that you share with your neighbours, small streets between clusters of houses where you can meet your neighbours, and larger urban spaces such as Playline, where the whole city can gather.
In this way, we believe we can create a sustainable neighbourhood that accommodates both everyday life and the future.
The heart of the community
The new community centre is located in the heart of Travbyen. It is a flexible building that can be used in many different ways. The community centre will be the focal point and heart of Travbyen's communities. This is where many of the social activities will take place. These may include communal meals, town festivals and residents' meetings.
All activities that help bring the residents of Travbyen together.
The community centre is located next to Playline and the neighbourhood's open spaces, making it easy to move the community outside.
In addition to large rooms with space for activities, the community centre has a large kitchen with large windows that can be opened onto the community centre's terrace. This makes it possible to plan larger activities where the community centre's outdoor and indoor areas are used in conjunction with each other.
From the first floor of the building, there is also a fantastic view of the Green Heart.
Community-building frameworks
In addition to the community house, a large co-working space will be built, providing the opportunity to work from home, but together with others. A large, bright office with a view of the Green Heart and all the facilities an office needs.
In connection to the co-working space, a large flex room will be established for all kinds of activities: presentations, workshops, creative workshops and joint meetings.
Several neighbourhood rooms will be established with space to meet and socialise with good neighbours and with good opportunities to facilitate various events such as birthdays or confirmations.
Close to the community house, a workshop area will also be established where creative souls can let loose and build custom-made furniture for their homes or Christmas presents for mum and dad.
Alongside the workshop area, a swap shop will be established, where old things can be given new life in the hands of others. Last but not least, guest apartments will be provided so that residents can welcome friends and family from far away without worrying about a lack of space.
All of these features contribute to making life in Travbyen a breeze, where residents have all their housing needs met.
The Community Association
The Community Association in Travbyen is the epicentre of the neighbourhood's communities.
The community in Travbyen must be developed, cultivated and run by those who live there. That is why we want to establish a neighbourhood association, so that residents can have a formative influence on the development of urban spaces, urban life activities and shared facilities.
The purpose of the association is to strengthen unity, create inspiring events and develop the neighbourhood into a vibrant and inclusive place to live. The community life is created on the residents' own initiative – this can be anything from film clubs, summer parties, maternity groups and flea markets to joint projects and cosy everyday gatherings.
To kick-start the many communities, a Community Manager is also employed. A position that will play a central role in facilitating communities and activities in the neighbourhood.

- 2 Neighbourhood rooms
- Flexroom
- Workshop & exchange market, etc.

-
What is the purpose of the shared facilities?
We are creating different spaces in the neighbourhood where residents can contribute to what kind of communal facilities Travbyen should have. We envisage a workshop, a swap shop and a neighbourhood room, but we hope that residents will contribute to the more specific details within these frameworks. In addition, there will be a community centre where residents can cook together.
-
How large will the community building be, and what will it be used for?
Approximately 350 square metres with a mezzanine level. The residents will help decide which activities it should accommodate.
-
How will you ensure that the community functions effectively?
Residents must create and live out communities themselves, but we will hire a Community Manager / urban life host to support activities.
-
What influence will residents have?
Associations will be established to ensure residents' influence. There will be a landowners' association (for the entire district), parcel associations (per building site) and an urban life association.
Two owners' associations will be established for the apartments sold in BF 1.
The green heart and Playline will be transferred to Billund Municipality, as they are facilities for the entire town.
