Green oases in the middle of the neighbourhood

Travbyen is shaped by green and playful urban spaces, where paths wind through small oases, providing residents with tranquillity in the middle of the city. The courtyards are home to diverse and biodiverse nature that changes throughout the year, creating peaceful, green spaces close to everyday life.

The living courtyard environments are intended as the residents' own sanctuaries, where they can enjoy wild flowers, green trees and plants, and open spaces. At the same time, playful elements such as tree stumps, balancing equipment and natural terrain jumps are incorporated in a way that brings life without disturbing the tranquillity and invites play.

The green spaces become both a place for contemplation and for community – where adults can find shade or sun, and children can explore nature and play.

The result is a neighbourhood where nature and play blend naturally with everyday life, to the delight of all.

Playline

In Travbyen, a section of the existing Playline route is being built, which can already be experienced in several places in Billund. In Travbyen, the route follows part of the track from the old trotting track and encircles Travbyen's green heart. Here, play, movement and community are brought together in a vibrant urban space.

The playful route will be a central meeting place where creativity, exercise and play can unfold. This stage of Playline will also have a special feature, namely a route cast in cement, which invites various types of activities along the way. There will be space for children and adults of all ages, whether for exercise and play, pleasant walks or quiet moments in the evening sun.

Playline also plays an important role in the vision of Billund as the Capital of Children, a vision that Travbyen strongly supports. It is therefore only natural that the route runs through the new district and connects it with the rest of Billund.

The playful route through Travbyen is expected to be ready for use at the end of 2026, at the same time as the first residents move in.

A playful connection in the Capital of Children

Playline can currently be experienced along Åstvej, on Skulpturstien and in the town centre. It is under continuous development, and both temporary and permanent facilities are gradually being added.

The purpose of Playline is to create a clear, safe and playful connection around the Children's Capital, which also serves as a link between the town centre, amenities and attractions.

Playline stems from Billund Byvision, which is a comprehensive plan for Billund's development over the next 20-30 years.

The green heart of Travbyen

The green heart lies at the centre of Travbyen. A large area where nature is allowed to flourish. Thousands of native trees and plants have been planted here, and birds, insects and animals have already moved in.

It has always been a high priority to incorporate biodiversity and nature into the urban space, so that future residents can enjoy nature up close, even though they live in the city centre.

In addition to contributing to biodiversity, this also creates a better microclimate, and the trees and plants help to absorb CO₂.

Over time, the many trees and plants will develop into large, distinctive trees and shrubs that will help to shape the landscape of Travbyen.
